When mapping an image map in Studio that has 'black' in the image map, for some reason the shadow map does not render correctly. I have shown a few examples below.

1 - Base plane with diffuse mxm applied, no mapping and shadow output checked. It renders as expected.

2 - Base plane with brick texture applied, shadow output checked. It renders as expected (Identical to the first test above)

3 - Base plane mapped with black/white checker imagemap, shadow output checked. This does not render as expected, you can see the checker in the shadow?

The shadow pass doesn't work at all here:
I checked the Shadow option in the material and in the render options, but the shadow pass is rendering white in Maxwell.
It worked as expected in Maxwell 1.7.

Paxreid, I confirm your bug. It happens only if the texture used has 0 RGB values. For now you can easily take care of this by using the Clamp values in the texture picker. Change the min one from 0 to 1 and the shadow pass will render normally. It will make practically no visible difference to your texture in the render.

Patrick, can you give some more info? Make sure you haven't applied it to a material that is across several objects, for a example a sphere on a plane, you want to check the Shadow option only in the material that's applied to the plane if you want shadows that fall on it. The sphere should have another material with the shadow option Off. Make sure also Shadow is checked in Render Options.
