So I may have spoken too soon when I said in another thread that the plugin is working fine. I can't get any of my own custom mxm materials to work. I've even tried remaking them and saving them with different names, in case materials from the previous version are incompatible, but Maxwell won't recognize them when I try to render via the plugin. I get the error that the object has triangles without material. If I use a standard material, or one of the custom mxm materials that comes with the program, the scene renders fine. If I make the material myself, nothing. Has anyone else had this problem?

I'm not sure what you mean by a step-by-step example. I opened an old scene that I'd rendered several times with 1.1, and 1.5 doesn't recognize any of the custom mxms that I created with 1.1. When I replace them with any standard mxms, like a plain plastic or metal, the scene renders fine. I can even use the custom mxms stored in the materials database folder.

I wondered about a path issue, so I moved one of the materials into the materials database folder, but that didn't help. In Cinema, the custom materials I made don't even show in the preview window, although they show in the preview window in the material editor. I even tried making custom materials with the new material editor, and those don't work, either.

I also redid all the UV tags, but that didn't help, either.

Are you saying that you aren't having this problem?

By 'doesn't recognize', I mean that when I try to render the scene using a custom mxm on my Cap object, I get an error in Maxwell that says,

"object Cap has triangles without material"

but the object Cap does have a material, and I even regenerated the UV tag. If I simply replace the material with one of the custom materials that comes with Maxwell, using the same custom mxm tag, the scene renders with no trouble.

I'm running Cinema 9.6 on Windows XP.

I can't see how to upload a file?

I tried deleting all the tags, including the phong tags, and reassigning all tags and materials, but I got the same result.

The old custom mxms load correctly in MXED, but it isn't just a problem with old custom mxms. I created a plastic material using the wizard in the new material editor, and even that one won't work in my scene.

Thanks kabe, but can you upload a simple scene who works for you just to see what we have missed

I'm curious how this obvious bug slipped past their betatesters.. that's what worries me. And i can't either use any type of Custom MXM files, it makes a render fail every damn time.

i have the same problem,
the material has a uv correct.

it only happens with NEW mxms made with the new material editor.
i tested:

i took an old mxm loaded it...rendering works
i opened the mxm in edtor, resaved it, and then when rendering i got the error message:

"object xy has triangles without material."

again when i load a mxm that was made in 1.1 it render correct again woithout error.

when i open the errored mxs in studio, all objects that had a new mxm apllied do not have any material. so i think it is a bug in the c4d plugin. it doesnt export mxms that are made in newer versions than 1.1

so yes i can conform this. tested it several times.
i guess this might be only a small thing and easy to repair. hope nl can give us an update on the 1.5c4d plugin. by the way the same happens with the old c4d plkugin when used with 1.5.

cheers
stefan
