hi there
I'm trying to get a hdri illumination working. No luck so far...
It would be great to do this directly in cinema, but I have not
yet found a way to do this...

I then tried to load the scene into mx studio. I converted an image into
an mxi and I'm applying this mxi to the illumination channel in mx studio.
my render is though just black... What am I doing wrong here?
Is there some kind of tutorial about this or could someone explain
me how to do it?

.i tried it several times and everything works.

1/ create SKY object
2/ create material with Color channel - this is for background
Luminance channel - for illumination
Transparency channel - refraction
Reflection channel - reflection
3/ apply material to Sky object
4/ assign Maxwell Skymap Tag to Sky object
5/ pull texture tag to Texture tag field in Skymap Tag

.it should work now.
.you may use all channels mentioned but you may use only one of them.
.you may also use four different hdri maps for channels.

hi there
By creating a new material, you mean creating a new cinema material, right? I didn't think this was that easy :).

Thanks for your help!

.yes, i mean cinema material.
.funky colors...where?...if you see funky colors in cinema material, than it is ok....they look always funky in the material preview but render should be ok.

The sky settings are just standard C4D sky material settings, everything should look fine in the viewport.

Patrik, your directions are for converting a cinema sky material to maxwell, but this isn't a HDR material though. Or am I missing something?

two screenshots for illustration:

this is my cinema material setup. just one image in the illumination-
layer:

and this is how it turns out in maxwell:

Any idea why this is happening?

to seco7: i am using this procedure for hdri lighting directly in cinema and it worked fine. if you will do it that way, than you dont need to load your hdri/mxi in studio, because cinemaxwell plugin converts your sky object with skymap tag and standard cinema material with color, luminance, transparency and reflection channels

to yves: as I can see, you have zurich6.TGA map in your luminance channel. you should have there HDR or MXI file, if you want it to work correctly.

.here you can see my material, skymap tag settings and render using that material.
.hope it will help.

.as you can see, I have no map in color channel, because I need no background in my render.you may load any image there (mxi or hdri) and also enable screen maping. screen maping is great for compositing, because you can convert any photo to mxi image, screen map it and render directly without alpha mapping the background.

.you can also adjust the intensity of your hdri in Skymap tag.
