Fast test of the new Cinema 4D Hair module.
It's possible to transform the geometry in poly and render it with m~r :)
This is the c4d version with hair-poly, GI and AO:

Thans for cinvincing me to get the new version of cinema. I have to have hair to do such things. Our archtitects (esp. the italian girl) will love me!

beppeg: Yes, it's possible to convert to C4D Hair to polygons for the purpose you describe (details in the Hair module manual). Don't know how the grass texture will transfer to Maxwell though.

The interesting thing is that there are different metod to transform hairs into poly, this is the flat mode;)
For the texture I'd try to bake it but c4d crash so I used the uv-coordinates (from bottom to top of all the singol hairs) and I create a new tex in tga format ;)
