All that problems and waiting for updates the never come and post about missing every little functionality in C4d plug and all that bugs in studio and restarts and wasting time with setup and prepair large scenes the never will finished cos it need weeks and months setup and splitting every object when you have large szene with more the 100 objects
It is impossible with the c4d plug in,
all that make me...

i had enough !

Hey NL,
WE ARE THE USER,and when we cant work with its simple USELESS.

And btw, how come the HDRI options in the plugin comes in lite-version, while the studio have far more options?

Sure you´re not trying to force studio upon us? Just a little...?

"simple USELESS."

hmm, it definitly has some irritating bugs and missing features, but i really wouldnt call it useless.

i work on every day with it for realjobs.

of course it needs a bit different workflow. but since the external renderplugins i had to change my workflow anyway, also for FR.

well lets see what the update brings...
hope it will be a real 1.x update, not a 0,7 or 0,8 or 0,9.

cheers

Rochr wrote:And btw, you still have the problem with Maxwell not rendering uneditable objects.
i wonder what you mean by that (parametrical objects?). maxwell does render hypernurbs (mxm applied to the subobject, not the hypernurb-object itself), extrude nurbs, loft nurbs, sweep nurbs like the splines in sour scene (ok, you have the problem with the black caps, but for wires and cable you won´t need them), but it generally works with maxwell material tags.
symmetry objects, as far as i experienced, do not work as cinema removes all maxwell tags when you "c" the object.

and i have to agree with stefan, you need some workarounds, but in our daily work maxwell is used. it takes longer than the average cinema AR, but it´s worth it. and i have scenes with sometime thousands of objects (architecture).
grouping the objects after material, applying a maxwell material tag to the group like already said before does work.

of course i wish some further improvements soon: selection tags, saving plugin settings in the scene, exporting more than one camera to studio and more stuff...

so, in my opinion the plug is quite usable.

waiting for an update.. hey wait, today is friday! :)

Looks like you came up with a new term, noseman - "sh:tuation". Hehehe.

You know, you´re right about that. Strangly enough i couldn´t get objects to render with my "The Hole"-scene. They were simply left out like in alpha.
It´s damn odd. The only thing i can think of is that i must have tried it with non-acceptable materials.
Ok great, one problem solved(i hope). Now i only need better tagging abilities, hd-support and some understanding clients that are willing to wait a month for a render. 8)

Rochr wrote:I don´t have a problem with tags, but having to tag EVERY single piece is one idiotic system. Let´s say that you have 500 models in a group, requiring the same material. Now, what´s the point of having to tag ALL the 500 children in the group, instead of just the group?
Feel free to explain in what way this speeds up the workflow.
No, this is complete idiotic, agreed - and I'm well aware of that.
I, too have a few scenes that I would like to render but can't...

Inheriting materials, visibility etc. in the old plugin is broken since the
very first version, and they never were able to fix it.

You may have heard that the plugin is completely rewritten currently.
So let's hope they have started with the basics this time.

sad to hear Nico.

i must say in contrary, dispite all the quirks and delays this development has undergone, maxwell is the softeware which makes the most fun for me and which did pay back its costs already 20 times ort more.

i have 3 licsenses bought, now i have 6:-) and i dont regret it a second, even i had to wait almost a year until i did my first tests with beta( i bougth it a t the very beginning).

so as with most things there are very different oppinions.
i for me and my company, maxwell was the greatest win of the last 5 years.

cheers

To be fair - I would guess the majority of people that use Cinema4D is for it's speed. When you have 5+ visuals for different clients to knock out in a day, the general community (of C4D) need (or are used to) something that will fit into this type of workflow. Hence the aggravation. At the moment, we have a exchange plugin to Maxwell studio and deadlines - and because of that you need to make a conscious decision whether to include it into a real job, I would love to include it in all the jobs - hands down the results are another level over AR - but I keep it for a saturday morning tinker and continue as before until the proper update will come. Maxon have such a great workflow that when you get used to it - it becomes detrimental to all others... I guess the lesson here is all good things come to those who wait - and lets face it MR is pretty much the pinnacle.. why else would we be here?

Just to inform you, dear C4D users, a highly respectable C4D plugin developer stated yesterday:
I still remember when they have sent out an email to their customers that they were seeking for plugin programmers for the c4d bridge. When I emailed them, they didn´t even answer. And adding support for hierarchy treatment of tags...com´on, that´s a matter of minutes to implement (c4d makes it very easy already). Only shows how much they are concerned to get that bridge working. Not at all imo.
Enjoy the mess!

for over 6yrs ive been laughed at for switching from 3ds max to c4d
they just dont get c4d but i will be dammed if it will make me switch to another application, unless it gets to the days when c4d doesnt meet my needs.

WAKE UP DEVELOPERS :D
(disclaimer: this was directed at developers in general and not aimed at NL)

plus on this forum you can clearly see that c4d has many users
