So I've installed the new Cinemaxwell plug in, and tagged my objects, emitters, and camera - now how do I make it send the render to Maxwell? I can't find a place in the render options to set a render engine... is there something obvious I'm missing?

Plugins Menu ... CineMaxwell plugin. Set output; in the Camera tab, make sure to select your camera object with the max tag; the engine tab is how long the render will cook; environment isn't working under the current version but normally this is where you would set the sky dome etc; everything else is pretty self explanitory.

Then hit the render button at the bottom of the window.

seco7: Also with your expertise. I'm assuming the mxs file is written at render time. So, to use the .mxs file in Maxwell Studio you would stop the render - open mxs in Maxwell Studio and mess in there ie: applying complex materials to substitue the defaul ones?

Am I close with how I think?

Thanks Seco!

EDIT: 'nother question - when I press the "render" button - all it does is give me a little error message "Couldn't write MXS file" - anyone know what's up with that?

create an "output" folder in the maxwell folder.

becco, you just have to uncheck the "render rgb channels" button in the plugin, then it just creates the mxs at the specified place/folder.

rendertaxi: Thank you. It would have helped if I had used the plugin before I started making assumed answers :) Today I try it.

I just click render again and then it works. I'm always rendering to the outputfolder, so it is there and I still get this message sometimes when I try to render something new.

Yeah Macray, I haven't run into that error yet, but the plug does seem the be ridden with several ... just keep hitting the ok button until it goes away type bugs. I have the "normals" one pretty consistantly. I cannot remember the last software I have used that this technique actually worked, maybe something in DOS? We used to write code that after three tries in would enter a debug mode ... but that was in COBOL on a HP MPE mainframe in the early 80's.
