So here is test. Nothing special. I just tried new features of plugin.

Image

Likes:
1. sky mapping works fine. Mxi is shown in viewport!!! Great
2. polygon selection material assign. Works grat! Look at alluminium-wooden sphere.
3. procedurals work super! a like it. That is really great.
4. setting maxwell material via native C4D material. Works fine too, but only particulary, because you can not make layered material. But for single BSDF materials it good.
5. material preview in custom MXM tag. Great!
6. It looks to me pretty fast and stable with C4D R10.

And dislikes:
1. tag system. I really do not like from beginning. I thing it would be much better to integrate maxwell material settings into material editor. Than would be workflow perfect.
2. no 64bit version
3. there is a smal problem, if you use same shaders with different settings in more than one channel. Than is used only the last one.

So final result? I thing C4D users got very good plugin. Good work Next Limit. Keep it up!

So guys what do you think and what you found out wiht new plugin??

Hi Burginger.

Why is it a pain? From what I can tell now, the new plug almost works great. And what is it all about the standards in the scene-folders?
Here is one of them. (sorry for grain, it's just for testing-purpose)

I did not add ANY Maxwell-Tag, so no maxwell-specific work done here!

The only changes from original:
-I used c4d-diffuse channel in the mats, cause this one adjusts roughness of c4d_mats in maxwell renders, and I disabled the proc. bump.
-I adjusted Maxwell rendersettings for setting date and time (PhySky&Sun).

I tried Pascal's Skyline scene but received a C++ runtime error from MXCL. I only had a quick glance at the console before it closed, but it looked like the first error had something to do with the sort order of the textures. I wonder it the plug has a limit to the number of textures it can handle. It probably took close to 30 minutes to export also, but that might have had something to do with the errors.

Hi seco7.

Pascal's skyline scene? Well, I only have the nissan car in addition to the c4d logo in my scenes-folder.

I tried to render that one as well, with the mentioned method (which is: no additions to the orig. scene)... and it took very long. But it rendered -with a benchmark of 0,2. I then saw, that a great number of ml-sliders were active. They turned that car in a somehow glowing pimped up thing...

In a great number of mats, there is Luminance channel activated in that original scene from Pascal.

Additionally there is a great number of HyperNurbs in that scene, each one adjusted to a level of 3. So both together - ml and Hypernurbs - that makes it a huge scene, so I guess that's just too much for your memory resources.
To make it renderable for lower ram-resources, just click off the luminance channel in all of the c4d-mats.

Greets. Mesut.

Hey Mesut, thanks for the reply.

I did not have the multlight enabled, so that wasn't the problem. Also, I thought the new plug can handle the lumin channel of materials. I expected it to look bad, but render. I will try to disable the lumin channels and see what happens when I get a minute to see if it is a bug there.

-Luminance Channel: maps into an emitter. Uses only simple colors. The
intensity is controlled with the Brightness slider from 0 to 10000 lux.
If you want to get mxi textures to drive an emitter, use a maxwell emitter tag instead with a mxi texture.

Hey seco7.

Well, it does handle the lum_channel.
It works for me.

Burginger,

I am using C4D 9.6 on both Mac (home) and WinXP (work). I am finding that the new plugin works quite well in both. I think that in the Mac version you have to be more careful about file paths. I am not sure of why that is but that's what I have found.

I have tried out the ArchiCAD 10 plugin on the PC and I think it is great. I hear that they will have an IntelMac version ready soon, the PPC is already out.
