Maybe this already has been a topic in the forum, but I couldn´t find anything about it - so sorry if it´s double.

My system: RC5 with C4D 9.5 and Cinemaxwell 0.7 plugin on OS X 10.4.4

My problem: I´d like to setup walls for a building. For this I use extrusion objects made out of splines. After rotating them (90°) I always have some black polygons in my render. No matter what I do (import to Studio, export as obj, triangulate, recalculate normals etc.) these black areas just persist.
The black polygons occur with any of MR´s light systems.

Any ideas? Thanks a lot in advance.

Did you try to convert it to a polygon?

Or perhaps you have two polygons in one place? You know that caps of extrudes still not render correctly!?

I personally hate the way Cinema constructs caps for extruded splines (usually loads of thin sliver triangles even for simple objects). Especially when the objec/s is are to be used with other software such as Maxwell.

As mentioned the Maxwell plugin also doesn't convert the bad caps properly anyway.

Maybe make the extruded object editable and delete the cap part that is created. Then use the bridge tool to quickly make a nice cap.

Last thing - check the direction of the normals. Sometimes Cinema extrudes splines with normals reversed. I would visually check the normals and not rely on any recalculate normals function.

Huh, I didn´t know that caps don´t render correctly with MR. But having a look at the C4D bug list that´s no surprise...

Unfortunately with the bridge didn´t work that well for me - but this a very good approach. I´ll try to simplify my geometry and use some other tools for creating polygons.

Thanks a lot for your ideas!
