Can another lightwave user test this and tell me if they can get a background working in the enviroment tab of Maxwell. It does not seem to be working. The only format I can get to work is .hdr does anyone know if this is normal?

Maxwell can only use MXI and HDR files in the environment channels. You can, however, load another image format in MXCL (File -> Load Image) and save it as HDR or MXI from there.

I've been trying to put an image as a background even in studio but it didnt work. I used mxi and hdr. The image doesn't show or it is just black. Is there anyone else experiencing this?
