in the manual it says -

"We recommend running the Manager on an independent computer that is not involved in rendering tasks."

- "Recommend" but do you have to, can i use the same computer to be a server and client at the same time?

Ive never done any type of net renderings before but i am thinking of buying a new system yet there wont be much pont if i cant render with both

Thanks, Ric

You might get unexpected results (crash crash crash) because the cpu will have trouble coping with both keeping the manager up and rendering your image. But i guess that's how most people have been running it for now :)

its posible to user that machine to render, sometimes i do that, my only advise is to put as much memory as you can on that computer. As long as all the info needed to run maxwell is in memory you will have all computers running 100% speed. otherwise, if the computer is swaping all the time it will sloww all computers.
