Sorry, but something is not right. On my laptop on which I run Studio, Render, Manager, Monitor, etc. the RLM license server is up after rebooting. I checked with http://localhost:5054/home.asp and it is up. Still Maxwell shows me the "Please select your license type:" window. Why is this? If I then select "Maxwell Render Suite - Floating (Connect to the RLM License Server already running) and enter the hostname (PC3) which shows up in the maxwell_license.lic, I get a modal with "Error saving license data..." but the license is already present, in the right location. What is wrong here?

After rebooting the laptop, this window always briefly flashes on screen:

I always have to select "Maxwell Render Suite - Floating (activate the RLM License Server or add more Floating seats or rendernodes to the existing one) and then provide e-mail, gateway password and activation key - then I'm shown the "Existent license file detected!" modal and I click "Override" upon which I am shown the "Error saving license!" modal upon which I save the license file issued to the desktop to just get rid of the modals - and then Maxwell works.

So, why can't the license which is already present never be found after rebooting?

"Port 5053 in use, waiting...."

Means something else is running on that port and the nextlimit ISV server can't also use it. I suggest changing the port 5053 in both the license files, then go to localhost:5054, and press the Restart servers button. Or better yet just reboot after changing the port nr in both license files. Change it to something else like 5070 etc. And check that the terminal window no longer gives you that message ("port xxx in use....").

Edit: But it's also telling you there is no license for that host (PC3). Is that really the name of the computer? Press the Windows key on your keyboard + the Pause key, what does the "computer name" say?

Thanks, I try the port change as soon as I am back in Windows mode. The computer name is indeed PC3.

So, I changed permissions on both license files and changed the port number to 5071. At http://localhost:5054/home.asp and clicking the "Reread/Restart Servers" button, RLM messages "Reread command sent to nextlimit". Now, I reboot...

...and am greeted by:

With RLM's status page showing:

And thus Muxwell wants me to license again, when started : (

RLM's debug log shows this:

But it still says at the top: "no license file for this host (PC3)".

Try changing the line in the maxwell_license.lic file so that instead of PC3 it says localhost (if you are having this trouble on the same computer where RLM is running). There is a problem with the computer name really...

PC3 is a nice name : ) All our PCs are named PC0 - PC# and, with Flexlm (licensing Autodesk or Dassault softwares), there never was a problem with the PC's naming convention. I try changing the name to localhost in the licensing file now.

Unfortunately the same window pops up right after rebooting:
