hey there !
welcome to our friendly forum where anyone gets help...

steps... just follow them.
first, for the faster machine that also acts as the manager over the slaves (called servers.)
1)
go to:
applications/maxwell
right-click the maxwell app icon and select: show content.
a new window opens and You'll see a folder «Contents». in this folder there's the folder MacOs. In this folder MacOS, there's finally the file called «mxcl».
2) open the terminal (a new shell window)
3) drag-and-drop the file mxcl into the shell window.
the path should appear like this:
/Applications/Maxwell/maxwell.app/Contents/MacOS/mxcl
4) enter just after this line the following:
-manager
hit enter.
(type «minus manager»)
note: this is a flag for the command You give when You hit enter. this starts mxcl in the manager mode.
5) in the terminal, create a new shell window (apple-n), don't close the other window !
6)
same drag-and-drop. then type «-server -p:low»
hit enter.
(minus server space minus priority low)
7) You'll see a new connection on the manager from the ip address this computer has. it found itself, yay!
on the slower computer, the slave:

, EIGHT) this smiley sucks...
open the terminal, as before, drag-and-drop the mxcl file into it and write «-server -p:low».
hit enter.
9) a new connection should be added to the manager on the first machine, from the ip of the slave.
ok. we have now one manager and two servers running.
now, we want to add a job.
10) same again, new shell window on the faster mac.
11) after the mxcl-line-drag-and-drop write «-d»
this starts the GUI, the maxwell render interface.
12) bottom: go to the network tab.
13) hit options. enter the ip address of the machine, the manager is running on. (probably the same computer again, the faster one) hit enter.
You'll see two green ip addresses under render farm that have the state «connected»
14) on the top of the screen under the menu «file» choose open scene and import the desired scene.mxs
15) check all settings (render options) and SET THE TEXTURE PATH to a directory with all the textures that can be accessed BY ALL the servers in the network !!! otherwise not all servers can find the textures...
16) under the network tab: hit add job.
17) click cooperative and hit ok.
done.
tips:
- specify all the texture paths correctly to ONE place on the network. if a material searches for a texture on /macHD_Cindy's_Computer/stuff/tex.jpg, the rest of the servers won't find the texture because the texture is stored locally on one computer. so the texture must be saved and linked as /networkdrive/textures_for_all_visible/texture.jpg
- choose output paths in the same manner, so that all servers can output their individual files to a path they can find. else You'll get errors like «could not write file»...
all clear ??
just ask again if You got any questions...
greets !
