I've been googling for hours and hours the last few weekends and have unsuccessfully been able to network my new Ubuntu 14.04 render machine with my main Windows 7 pro machine.
I have them connected through a network switch and cat 6 cables, but I can't "see" my Ubuntu from the windows 7 network & sharing center.
The new wired network I set up says it is an "unidentified network" and I can't see the Ubuntu machine

When looking at the Ubuntu machine, when I click "on" for the wired connection, it says connecting for a while, but then disconnects. Maybe I need to change one of the connection settings here?

I have Samba installed on the Ubuntu and they are both on "WORKGROUP"
