Hello there,

I'm just between two projects righ now, so it is the goos time to install V3 on all my PCs...

On the main one, no problem, RLM (lic manager) is installed, on the web page i can see all my licenses are here...
I can open studio, maxwell.exe and even manager / node are ok...

Now i try to install on 2 rendernodes, and no way...
never find any license (i've set the main PC's IP and name to test both...
those rendernodes are still giving me a license not found error...

I've bought one floating and extra nodes, it is useless for now...

Please someone help me...
Of course, i've tried deactivating the firewalls...
Of course i've started them in admin mode...

no way...

On the nodes, how many license files do you have in:
C:\ProgramData\Next Limit\Maxwell\licenses

You should have one.

Open the maxwell_license.lic file, what does the info say?

Do you happen to have any other RLM servers maybe running on these nodes?

Go to: C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc and open the hosts file. Do you have any entries there that point to 127.0.0.1? If so delete them and resave the hosts file. It won't let you do this directly so save it somewhere else first and overwrite the old one.

It says : HOST 192.168.0.13 ANY 5053

I've installed RLM only on the main PC.

There were som, not related to rlm nor maxwell, but ok i've set them as comment...

On rendernodes, nothing about 127.0.0.1...

same error...

hmmm....and you've restarted the computer? One other user had a problem because of those entries in the hosts file.

Ok, if you open a browser on this machine and type in: 192.168.0.13:5054 (not 5053!) does the RLM interface appear?

To answer your last question : yes it worked... but Chritophe (aka Roch) found a solution...

I have to switch off the firewall on the machine running RLM... otherwise rendernodes won't connect to the licnece manager...
It is a limited in time solution, because i don't really want to let my firewall unset.

I guess the installer opens firewall for maxwell.exe, mxnetwork.exe... but not for RLM...
anyway, i can now work and test network stability ;-)

I'll post here news about that issue with future releases...

regards.

Ah, but you said both firewalls were off :| Yes, ofcourse the other computer won't let Maxwell/mxnetwork to connect to RLM, and you just have to create some rules for rlm, mxnetwork,Maxwell,Studio, on both computers. You don't need to run with the FW off!
I guess the installer opens firewall for maxwell.exe, mxnetwork.exe... but not for RLM...
The installer doesn't open anything. It can't suddenly deactivate certain features of your FW app, or put rules there by itself. So you have to take care of this yourself on both ends.

You're right, with Roch we've tried deactivating FW on each side with no succes... maybe in the midtime we've changed another thing...
I can't remember all details, but i know i've reinstalled from blanck with the last release (11 dec), and i've uninstalled all my V2 everywhere on the network, to prevent any conflict...

btw, it would help people to find the exact changes to be made in FW on each machine, and to explain in a tutorial for those who don't have a good system-management level... or a good Roch-based reseller / friend ;-)

I can't wait for 3dsmax's plugin documentation (coming soon ;-)...

My main customer : www.oskab.com is close to let me change from Vray to Maxwell, i just need to make it shure with some nice volumetrics rays from the sun with some little dust point floating in the air...

I'm also looking for some tuts / tips to get that working...

regards.

We'll add some info about which applications need FW access, but it would be very difficult and long to try and cover many different network setups that people have. Maybe some have a router rule that blocks some component etc.

It's:
Maxwell
Studio
mxnetwork
rlm

Have a look in the docs for the Volumetrics, under Extensions, or do a search for volumetrics.
