I just bought Maxwell and the current Hurricane craziness has inspired me. This is my first rendering with Maxwell so I would love some C&C. This took 10 hours and reached a 19 sampling rate, but my computer is way under powered. I'm on a 2ghz celeron with 768mb ram. Yes, I know how bad it is. Anyways, let me know what y'all think.

update - 09.24.05

Since y'all asked so nicely I did a night time shot. 41 hours later it reached a 20 sampling rate. I really need to get a better computer. =) I really don't like how it came out, not enough of the ground lit up around it. Oh well, I'm still starting out with all this.

Swierk:
Thanks. That is the original resolution. Unfortunately due to my computer being so weak I do most of my renderings at 640x480 because they take forever otherwise. I wanted to do one big enough for printing 8.5x11, maybe some wall art, but it'll take too long. If anybody wants to take the .mxs and render it for me, they're more than welcome to. I'm also a huge fan of your post, great apartment/city scene. :D

I'm working on the night scene. I tried applying an emitter material to all the wicks but it came out without any light besides just the wicks. I'm still new at this but maybe it's because the normals on the wicks aren't pointing the right directions? Maybe because there's not enough in the scene to bounce light off of? Any clue? :( Thanks.

i think if you´re having spheres or something like that as emitters in every lamp and no light comes out, the normals are flipped.
they always have to point outwards.

and i would use a sky dome with a dark blue color too to light the floor a bit. but only with a low intensity.
then it should work.

would be glad if you send me the file and i render it a bit larger for you.

what software do you use?
