A scene I worked on yesterday, I wanted to try something different then product renders. I rendered it in a few hours, that's why there's still quite some noise visible, but in this case
I'm considering to keep it in there.. It adds to the overall feeling.

What do you guys think?

Btw The scene has only one emitter

1. I can't see almost anything

2. Advantage is - if You own maxwell license then You don't have to pay for v-ray licencse to render rectangle of light.

C'mon guys it's not always about realistic product renders which are well exposed and in color. I think it's really cliche that a render like this
is being criticized so much. It's a one day project and i'm glad i could do something different than the average Maxwell render.

And what's the advantage of maxwell render in this project..? The same as it was every other, easy setup and realistic results.

I would love to see a bit more jagged shadows like on the bottom and a crack for the light to pass through somewhere around the edge of the door.
That might give a bit more creepy look ;)

I think the way the light on the floor cuts off so sharply in front of the door could use some work. Feels like it should spill out a good amount more. The wall texture also looks a bit rough.

For a dark render like this, I would say you have to cater to the lowest common denominator. Meaning, I think you need to brighten it a bit due to the fact that I think 95% of people don't have monitors that this image will view well on. One click to much or to little one the brightness or contrast will completely kill an image like this. One side will see a white rectangle, the other side will see a white rectangle with gray around it.

On another note, i'm a bit upset with some of the comments i've seen about this image. I've seen many images that are 95% more boring than this get 105% more praise.

The texture might be a bit too rough but that's mainly the amount of noise that still in the render. I posted the render with no post and a bit brighter. But it has to render for much longer, i'll do one this weekend. Then I'll lighten it up a bit, see what that does.

Thank you for the support Jason. I'm not asking for a choir of compliments but this isn't helping me either :). Please be critical but not cynical ;)

By the way, Mac OS Lion now displays the images brighter, almost as bright as Windows.
