Just wanted to share my Hover Competition image and see what you guys think of it. The Hover Competition was hosted by Ronen Beckerman ( http://www.ronenbekerman.com ) who's been hosting some great competitions. I was one of only a few folks using Maxwell, love to see some more next time.

My general concept was to do a contemporary art museum in downtown St. Louis, Missouri USA. We have a very cool one by Tadao Ando here so there's a good precedent. I mostly used SketchUp 7 and Maxwell 2 with just a bit of 3ds Max 2011 thrown in to get those trees and the people in there.

I remember that contest. had an invitation, too.

overall nice image but two things bother me a bit. the huge house in the background. it's too obviouse that it's just a texture on a cube. just a bit of modeling would have helped because auf the casted shadows. just a few extrudes on the windows would be fine - you can still map the texture flat on it after all.

the second thing is the white lighting wall-burnings from your spots on the ground ...

but I really like the whole area under the hovering piece. the rust an lights look cool. the more far you get to the outside of the pic the more work could be put into it. you know what I mean ;).

but anyway nice entry - good luck for the competition

thanks for the comments,

you're definitely right about the background building. i added a bit of depth to the sign but i should have done the same for the windows as well.

you're spot on regarding the burnt out spots as well. I should have worked a lot more on my lighting. I used IES lights for those but ended up having to crank the values way up to get enough light from them which then messed up the values. I tweaked it in photoshop which helped some but i'm still not real pleased with that part of the lighting. I may take another go at it down the road after the realtime preview comes out.
