Just playing around with MR, C4D and HDRI. I shot a bunch HDRIs about 6 months ago and finally found a use for one of them.

MR 1.0 seems quite stable and pretty darn fast. There were a few frustrating bugs but I'm sure they'll get sorted soon.

I don't know how to match the base plane with the HDRI for casting shadows, any help would be most welcomed.

Some of the colours are out of gamut hence the over saturation to compensate.

Rendertime 1hr31min SL13.5, didn't really improve much after 45 minutes.

It didn't acutally, only 90 minutes. Using HDRI for lighting seems to be around 300% faster from my tests. The image is completely usable after 45 minutes or so.

Here's the real car. I'm going to take some HDRs in the same spot to try and match the photo as closely as I can :)

Forget the renderings, I just want the car...

Excellent work. Best I've seen with V1.0.

Could you please make a tutorial or a quickie to explain how to render an object within a hdri map like that with shadows?

This is a chapter I've missed and would be very pleased if you could fill it in for me.

Thanks in advanced

Edit (1min later): Or have you just mapped a plane with the car on top of it and placed so it matches the ground hdri ? :)

I tried to mapped the plane with the bottom cube face from the HDRI but found it impossible to match. I simply made it large enough to cover most of the bottom of the HRDI but as you can see the scale is way off.

The trick with the background HDR is to convert the 0 ev exposed panorama to a 32bit HDR and us it in the background slot. That way Maxwell doesn't have to tone map the output and you end up with a much nicer result. If you don't have access to the individual exposures I'll be making a serious of HDRis available shortly and will supply them with the 0 ev pano.

I would say that if the cars color was silver mettalic, and it had an interrior, this would be a very good render. Still not bad, but needs those thins/

Wish list - Maxwell needs front projection mapping. Very nice image. i like the oversaturation in the background plate, especially the blue reflection in the windows and the blue sign at the base of the archway matching the blue of the car and complemented by the golden orange of the building. The blues tie the foreground to the background and make for a sweet image and composition. let that sucker cook for a while and see what you get.
