As far as the refractions and reflections and caustics, there are some great things happening there. the plastic is looking far more real in the example above. granted, lighting is not equal, but I do see a bit of dielectric improvment as far as accuracy....

Hum, I thought these white dots were supposed not to show with RC4 (see bug graveyard). A ghost bug for a ghost stool. I know NL guys make their best, but anytime I see an old beta render, I can't help feeling sad...

I think 39 inch is quite big for such thickness in your stool. Can you try it with 5-10 mm, I think the thickness of the plastic is no more than 5 mm. High attenuation will decrease absorbance and will cause loss in saturation.
