Thanks hyltom and Ron. :)

Hyltom, I played with that plug-in awhile back and forgot about it. It's certainly worth a try.

New image on page 1. It is a redo of a scene I did for a magazine spread a couple of years ago. The red walls made the scene especially challenging. Not all the noise is noise. There is a subtle stucco texture on the walls. This cooked on one dual xeon for 21 hours and on another (same specs) for 31 hours.

Fran,

All images are sweet! latest addition (july 15) so simple and sleak, I love it.

my only crit: in the fire place it seems that you're implying that the stone work is showing through some grit I guess. give it a little bump. could be kinda nice to see a rough surface in a room that's otherwise smooth and crisp.

DUUUUUUUUUUDDDDE...................ET!!!!

Thanks Luis. :) For the fireplace brick, I tried to put a bump map in there and you can just barely make it out in the 1200x900 version. It seems that using a larger image for bump mapping makes it work better. I'm rendering a view now with a larger bitmap.

Thanks yadikrisnadi. :)

I've posted a little update showing more bump on the fireplace interior. I would have let this cook longer, but I didn't like the mantel. :(

I made a couple of changes to the previous scene. I wasn't happy with the mantel or the logs in the fireplace before. The new mantel is more in keeping with the Art Deco style of the room and the candles are more in keeping with the hottest days of the year (which seems to be this week). :)

Thanks to ivox3 for the lovely flowers that are topping the candle holder. :D

beautiful render Frances.

A very peaceful look to the scene, apart from the artwork with has disturbed look to it!

Thanks Richard. I agree about the art. I think the designer indulged his taste in the avant garde with that choice since it was a hypothetical project for a magazine article. :) I didn't question it at the time because 1) I didn't want him to know how naive I am about art and 2) I was hoping I'd get more work from him. He selected some Duchamp for 2 other schemes of the same room. I've subbed them in and am rendering it now. We'll see how that goes.

I will clean up the gallery and just show the final (when it's ready) like I was supposed to.

Vodka79 wrote:hi Frances,

how do you managed to keep the render time shorter for interior shots? Are you using a render farm? What will you suggest for a SL that is good for interior.
You'll notice that the latest image (AD_scene03_sm.jpg) still has a lot of noise at SL 13.8. It was rendered on a single machine. I note on my images when I've used coop. rendering.

I would say that SL 18 seems to be a good level to reach overall. Although, I've seen some images that were above SL 18 that still had insurmountable noise, so it really depends on the scene materials and lighting.

It's gonna take a hell of a time to reach SL18. Wish the interior could clear up as fast as the exterior rendering.
No. I have two computers to do coop rendering. I'm saying that the latest image was not rendered using coop rendering.

One thing I forgot to mention is that ceiling noise seems to clear up much faster using Skydome instead of Physical Sky/Sun. For this particular scene, I didn't think sunlight patches were all that necessary. I got the idea to try that from another recent thread - I forget which one.

I've updated the lounge scene (again  ). I just thought I would explain the render time. This is 6 different seeds rendered for about 5 hours each on 2 different computers, then merged.

Next I'll focus on the other side of the room, which has a daybed, floor lamp, black laquer cabinets and very interesting wall sconces.
