I'm going a bit far on the philosophy of the work ;o)

But up to what point it is fair to say that this is a true 3d image? I mean Maxwell was just a tool but the amazing hand painted photoshop textures made the render.

If you come up with a buch of images and glue those on a 3d object aren't those images making up for the Render?

The clay model is good but the textures are simply amazing. Even though this Image may not have been retouched afterwords could it be classified as a true 3d render?

This render seems alot like oil on canvas,or better yet, photoshop on polys.

It doen't mean that this is good or bad, in fact this is a true piece of art. It is just a bit of 3d philosophy here

It's just amazing. Makes a difference in the forum, since 99% of the images posted are interior scenes, exterior architecture or product visualisation.
