Mihai: I don't think crystal will stick to a magnet (but a black-hole of that size might do the trick )

misterasset: Thanks for the crit ! ... indeed a random placement would look more plausible for a solid natural magnet ... but this one is electric ... you can imagine a radial array of conductor coils (in a soccerball pattern) underneath the shell creating "strong" spots.
