hi rusteberg, sandykoufax, devista and numerobis! :)
x sandykoufax.
The procedure i used is following:
I built one layer with aleatory placed points, i projected the points vertically on to the landscape and i
replaced the points by 3 sided polygons.
Now i have one single layer containing only 3 sided polygons. I deleted all triangles which have been to
close to the water surface. i built some zones without triangles. The procedure should not take longer
as 20 minutes.

I imported the file in to Felix and i assigned three types of plants to the layer containing the triangles.
In this way Felix replaces each triangle with one instance. Now i had only to define the rotation freedom,
the scale variation and the density of the plants.

this video show's the procedure http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sf2xn1mktfA

No, they're 3d models.
That's the point 8)

Aw, interesting. I thought Felix only did 2d trees for some reason. I'll have to take a second look at felix.

Thanks tokiop!
Hi Brodie_geers, yes, tons of 3D trees. 3D trees are now part of the object libraries of FELIX and
you can easily add your own tree meshes. Thanks!

by the way...Which is the best tree generator today?

Speedtree 5.2 looks very interesting

btw/ incredible renderings here daros, one question about the rocks, do they have displacement?

Daros, aha! So I'm not going crazy. I followed Felix's development for a long time before it came out but have sort of fallen away after the release (the current credit model doesn't really work with company unfortunately). Glad to see you've got 3d trees now, that's a great improvement.

I don't really use a tree generator. I've tried Onyx before though since so many people seem to use it and it seemed very powerful and fairly intuitive.

thanks jc4d and iker!
x iker, no displacement is used in this scene for the rocks, only bsdf. Let's try Speedtree 5.2, thanks!
x brodie_geers, i'm glad you like this feature :) thanks.
