thanks Hyltom and Sandy ....

my final entry .... :P

A mellowed and less shiny gilt frame, but still a brighter type gold than Fran's (subjective I suppose) + some work on the painting texture & sheen.

I am so done with this. lol .....

Hi Ivox,

Great result...really good.
Can u explain your displacement texture process?
The displacement method is now under development ...i'm right?

the painting is better now, only the wall should need a bit more definition :D

The painting and the frame are both a lot better now!

maybe I'm the only one, but I like the first version better. it's warmer, and the gilt mat much more appealing (don't really mind it for not being totally physically spot on, and anyway, it doesn't look that off to me). and the painting now looks as if it was embossed rather than actually painted.

well, just an humble opinion :D

I've had a second look at both, and I still think the last rendering is a lot better.
However, I think it would have been interesting to see the result of a little bit more light in this scene, like a second light source: A large area light from behind the viewer (maybe form one of the sides) just to add an extra 10% light to the scene...

Just a thought...

Thanks again all ..... ;)

Now, .. Frances is out of town for the weekend, ... so now I have the upper hand ...

@Thomas Lacroix: yep, .. I screwed that up ... I didn't notice I messed up the mapping by accident ---- re-render & fixed.

@ Rivoli: I thought I'd try and get that Van Gogh heavy brush look with the painting ...... ehhh , ... did what I could. lol....

@ Kurt: I was going to do that, ..but I might hear it from Fran about altering the scene .... so I left it stand.

@ Fernando: hey, ... pretty cool material, ... it definitely would work. with re-worked maps.
Last image(for sure) with the improved wall texture.

lorenz, ... thanks.

Okay, The displacement is fairly simple and there's many 3rd party apps that can do it if your native app doesn't have the function ( we are talking about actual geometry and not displacement on the render side of things).

This particular app is called Zsurf, ...written by a Rhino user named Jim (last name I don't know). Anyway, .. it uses .bmp's as input and exports as an IGS file -- which Rhino easily imports as a nurb surface. At this point the surface can easily be turned into a polygon mesh , ..if desired.

Rhino actually has displacement now, ...but I find it a little clunky to use, ... so I either opt out to do it with Zsurf or UV Mapper.

As far as the Maxwell displacement, ... all I know is that it is being worked upon. .....so, ... coming soon shall we say ? hehe ....

:D go for it then.

very good work on the lamp this last version, and the wall too. spot on there (maybe the texture could be a wee bit crisper).
