Wow! Its been over a year since I posted an update. Everything is confidential. I have so much cool stuff but cant show. Here is something that just went into stores a few months ago so I can show. Its three pressure washer I designed and modeled in Solidworks then rendered in studio. Here is a link to the actual product photos http://www.ridgid.com/Tools/Pressure-Wa ... /index.htm

And here are the renderings. Im not too crazy about the the Husky unit. That layout of components was predetermined by marketing. Could have been worse though I suppose. I am quite happy with how the Ridgid units turned out. Pressure washers is a new category for the Ridgid brand.

Nice work Eric!

I think the renders could stand a bit more contrast - beefing up the blacks really, but otherwise very well done.

Are the materials these are made from different from unit to unit? Some appear more plastic-like etc. due to the glossiness/roughness.

Thanks Brett. Yeah I was wondering if some would appear washed out. Especially the 3rd one. I have a dual monitor setup and on one screen it looks ok with the contrast and on the other it seems a bit washed out. I dont know which one is telling me the truth. I have a better idea now though since you tell me they look washed out. Its my 21" Cintiq that is the liar! :)

The materials are different. Its supposed to be a semi-gloss powdercoat, but maybe too shiny on the ridgid units. Looks more like a gloss doesn't it. Reality is probably somewhere in between the orange and red unit :?

Very nice work Eric. The render are really nice and well done but i' m mostly impressed by the complexity of the product (many part) that you handle. Have you model everything yourself? If yes, it should take a enormous amount of time to make one project.
When i see what you are doing and what i' m doing, this make me think that we don't make the same jobs even if we call ourself industrial designer. Anyhow, I'm very impressed by your engineer and designer skill, far better than mine.

I have check your website and have one question: Do you work alone?

Thanks man your work inspires me so your comments mean a lot. Don't be too impressed though the Engines are provided by Subaru and Honda The pump is also provided off shelf. These vendors send us the cad files for those components. We just built a frame and some parts that go around these main components. The gun that is on the ridgid units was sketched by one of our talented interns and modeled by one of our other designers who is very good. So I don't do it all for sure. My main focus of work was everything but the gun and pre-exisiting engine and pump though and it was a few months of work. The parts we do were sent directly to tooling for manufacture production. I make our sheet metal vendor in China life very difficult with those ridgid metal faceplate's. But in the end they pull it off. Oh yes an Intern and I both did all the graphics and labels. That took more time than all the other parts!

I do not work alone. I work for a company called Techtronic Industries and my team Concept International is an in house design group for all of the tools this company makes. The people I work with have incredible talent and inspire me every day. My website is there only to get side work although I would not have time if it came  I think it is there in the hopes that one day I could do this full time on my own. Time will tell.

I'm relieve to hear that there is a team behind this fantastic and impressive work. I was thinking: this guy is a phenomenon, can handle design, engineering, CG, customer, design agency...So now i understand better your profile and actually we really do the same kind of job in different field.

And as designer i understand your frustration to not be able to show all your cool works. I think it' s the most horrible part of our job. Like today, i just finish a new product and i think it's the best rendering i have ever done since i use maxwell, but i will have to wait at least 2 years before showing anything...so unfair.
