I think the only thing used from the real car is, the interior and the reference points on the outside to exactly position the 3d car

Nico is right, we only kept the inside of the car and the track points where used for positionning.
The reflections of the car was cheated with some pre-rendered tree plates coming from vue scene, and the ultimatte cheat was to pre-blur the plates to manage motion blurred reflections. In fact, they where rendered in Randomcontrol Arion (except Tokyo) for faster render and composited with maxwell "beauty pass".
