Hopefully the chair will be out for 2008, but that's out of our control.

Mihai, Here is an image of the model. All the UVs are straight off the model, but I wish I knew how to "unfold" or get all the UVs to become more seamless. I think studio max can do this, but I don't think Rhino or Solidworks can. Somebody teach me how to do this !!!!

Fantastic images!

Good to see this kind of surfacing being done in the very able SW.

The stitching is a good lesson in how much to attempt in the render and what to leave for post compositing. I see you have taken advantage of this to tone down the stitching on the suede chair.

SW and Maxwell fulfil brilliantly the front and rear end of this process but like you I am looking to slot something in the middle to handle mapping and texture placement.

Blender is mentioned regularly on the forum so I am going to have a go at some UV mapping in the coming week but I don't think it is going to be as simple as I hope.

The first issue is how best to get the SW data into blender but I don't know if I will have to pass it through Rhino or the like to do it.

Anyone out there got any suggestions for a WF.

This is an exact repeat of my side of 4 conversations i've had this week. I'm testing Solidworks/Blender for UV unwrapping this week probably with Moi or Rhino. I'll let you know what i figure out.

Did you see Mihai's comments about 'Unfold3D'.
Can't find the thread now but it is apparently very tolerant of complicated converted nurbs/polygon triangulation plus the work-flow and UI looks reassuringly straightforward.
Have a look at the demo vid.
Price would be OK if it solves the mapping issues.
There is a software demo; will let you know how I get on with it.

I found the demo good and ordered the software. I should be getting the dongle next week so I can let you know how it works for out for me as well. It ain't cheap, but you may want to look at Headus as it's apparently very good and somewhat cheaper.

I know you enjoy detailed models. It was quite a test to model something like that by eye, from a hand sketch. Especially in Solidworks. It took me about a day and a half.

I've been on this forum since beta (a user since beta) and fell in love with MW. It's really great to see this program mature and to have gone through it's growth together as a group.
