did a small - 400x300 - quick rollercoaster animation of this bridge
Image

the frames were set to complete at sl-8 to keep the render times short - a little under-rendered but not too bad for the frame size.

the animation requires quicktime 7

Coool. How long did it take to render all these frames? How many frames are there anyway?

What was your experience like working with the network manager? Right now when ever a machine has a problem it will just skip a frame and I have to go back and re-render that frame individually. Nice animation by the way, wish it was higher resolution though, what were your render times and how long did it take?

Maxer,

Glad you asked - although I have anumber of machines networked I didn't use the network for the animation because I'm not clear on the procedure for setting up a network render - if someone out there could give me a step by step I'd very much appreciate it.

As it was I generated all of the mxs files from within MAX 8 with my workstation - took about an hour to do 750 files and then used the command line to render the files to .TGAs on another machine - the times varied from 5 to 12 minutes per frame to reach S:8.

I've had a lot of problems exporting the MXS animation files from Max, not only does Max randomly crash but the files them selves take for ever to export. They are also extremely large files and we had to purchase a 250GB hard drive for one of the servers just to store the files. I hope NL finds a way to make this export process easier and less taxing on system resources.

the random crashes during mxs export happened to me as well.
Do you have to export all of the mxs files before setting up the network render?

Great animation, flying backwards while crossing the steel cables was the coolest part :)
