this is an uneducated guess, but I think we might have to wait for IES data support, which I read in a thread, and one of the nextlimit guys said there would be support in the future, maybe you're gonna have to eyeball it till then.

This is a direct paste of Andronikus' earlier post:
Here is what I have to offer about emmiter materials...I received that e-mail I will ago and I will share it with you.

W means watts of power, W/m^2 watts of power per square meter, W/sr is intensity, and W/(m^2*sr) is radiance.

You can use watever you want, but for example, if you work with W/m2, it means your emitter object emitts one W power per square meter, so, if you resize your object, the amount of light it emitts will change, and sometimes it can be and undesirable effect. But if you work with W unitts, then the object will emitt the same amount of light independent of its size.

Illuminants are a kind of standard of predefined lights.
For example D65 is a light similar to a daylight sky.
A is like a tungsten lamp at 2856o K.

i know candelas equal to watts... 1 candela = 1 watt
but maybe i'm wrong..

are you sure a candela is equal to watt?

It seems since cadelas are used to measure the actual intensity of the source, they would be intensity... but that's just a guess.

as a very common argument (it may be wrong) i've heard,
eg. a 80 W bulb illuminates the same as 80 candle sticks.
but technically it may be a fault, because 8etty sent a cool
technical link to illumination.

8etty wrote:yep tom, you're wrong..wattage is a bad indicator of how much light is emitted..for ex. a 25 watt fluorescent emits more light than a 100 watt incandescent bulb
 yep, maybe the argument is allright for incandescent bulbs only....huhuhuuh... the general electric ones....huhuhuhu.....
