Hi! we are very interrested by Maxwell.

We actually use maya and mental ray for post production and we use a

lot of the maya unlimited feature like fur hair and

paint effect ,i there a hope for a maxwell support of

thiis feature (without convert paint effect in to poly) ?

Did you plan to implement a "skin shader" (like a implementation of the

marshner reflectance skin model).

what about hdr mage support?
thanks in advanve for your answer. :)

Stephen Marchner - NICE REFERENCE! - Wann Jensen and his posse are awesome... I believe what you want is full implementation of the BSSRDF model. Which I assume is how NextStep will do it. I think this is a render issue, as I'm sure the updates will flow into all versions. Again, good call on Marchner - as an aside Yoann, do you guys ever do any volumetrics with mental ray? Anything with intensive motion-blur? I've used it for a while now and I'm just curious what you think about it...

Anyway, good question - I'm sure we'd all like to see support of fur, cloth, paint,,the use of Maya's procedural material generation... and yes... particles (.pdb support)...

It will be intersting to see what direction it goes... Man I feel like I'm on raging bull pumping a stock! hahahah -except Maxwell has already delivered... so don't read anything negative into that.....

hi jep,

yep Wann jensen and marshner do a really great job! i recentlly see a siggraph course note 2004 paper with some shoot of a marshner brdf skin model in different environement lighting condition and the result is really good!

About volumetrics and montion blur in mental Ray, we use a lot motion blur and it's really fast and the result is relly good, for volumetrics (we don't use vol a lot) effect we use maya fluids instead of raymarcher (so slow!).Last year i see The jig render in use and it's volumetrics rendering capacity are really incredible!(and the hair  )

this is a important request paint effect are really powerfull (the hair module too) and it's a shame that we can't use without converting in poly (or with third part plugin) in mental ray. i really hope that we can use pE inside maxwell!

I think it sounds so far away, but it would be great!!

yoann - are you sure what you saw was a brdf and not a bssrdf? I'm pretty sure they are taking into account subsurface scattering, which brdf does not.... it's all came about by shooting the laser though the glass of milk. Wann Jensen comes to my work every so often to give presentations and he specifically spoke of the Milk, subsurfacescattering and how fat molecules made the difference (i.e. Skim Milk gives of a blueish tint and whole milk gives off warmer, red hue)

Now, I have to ask - you do lot's of motion blur in MentalRay AND it's fast?!?!!? What res are your images? are they stills or sequential? Are you using true multisegmented motion blur or their "Rapid Scanline" one bounce solution...or even a post vector blur? I've just never heard anyone claim mental ray was fast with motion blur - I belive you, I'm just trying to get an idea fo your magical ways! hahaha

If we had Sub-D suport I wouldn't really even care about NURBS... as ong as you could set a creasing strength (like renderman) Maya's sub-d sucks!

off topic - whoops! I look forward to your reply.....

cool! - Nice visual aids.
I still think that what you really want is BSSRDF - BRDF has no accounting for subsurface scattering - what you're looking at is an estimation of an approximation - A DARN GOOD ONE! where you'll really see the difference is in translucency - try shining a light behind the thin part of someones ear.
I'm pretty sure Next Limit knowes this.

BTW, I replied to your PM.

do you you see what I'm saying about the BSSRDF or do you think I'm on crack? hahahaha
