Hey guys is there anyway to set the focal distance with the maya plugin. In studio its pretty easy, just focus to, but can't figure out how to change it in maya. Thanks!

select and object and press f - it will zoom in in Maya. If you don't want to do that, select Camera and in the toolbox on the right, under cameraShape1 you'll see Center of Interest.

The green trapezoidal hyperfocal display is a good visual reference, as well, of course.

P.S. Moving this to Maya plug-ins

not quite getting it to work right. Do you select the MaxwellCamera then press F to zoom to that object? And is there a way to get that trapezoidal thing to be wide?

try using display/heads up display/object details to get the distance from camera (selected object) written on top right corner of the workspace and enter the value in the maxwell camera focal distance field

ah. if the field is colored in the channel box it's being driven by an expression. so You can not change it's value. there must be other input fields that make Your desired changes... but which ones... i'm not sure... sorry.

i just checked maya.
the expression is derived from the film tab right underneath. if You change the values of the film back, the hyperfocal distance changes.

You can check this by hovering over the purple field and right-click edit-expression.
there You can read how they're linked.

i had that problem once too but i never looked at it again. :)

it doesn't matter for normal renderings - maybe You have Your reasons, so just find the answer in there and change the film back settings... !
