betty,
I remember seeing this sometime ago - I also seem to rember that it's missing some of the good stuff. I'm curious how it compares to MayaMan or MTOR.

Depending on the level of integration and speed I'll be filling our farm with either Maxwell or RenderMan for Maya. I already know they both look amazing, but we'll see if RenderMan's speed/features can justify 4x the cost of Maxwell (renderman for maya is $995 per cpu). Currently it can, but thats not a fair fight until at least Maxwell 1.0.

Pixar is placing this at the exact same price point as MentalRay standalone though, again depending on the integration and speed, thats an easy choice for most of us.

it seems like a case of too little too late for PRman - I've already "seen" what's coming down the pipe for the next versions of renderman - and without getting into specifics, I can tell you that theres nothing that will blow your skirt up... their hybrid raytracing is still lagging - their GI solution is still a mjor pain in the workflow and it's still the same RendeMan for the most part - and that's not even the paired down version offered for maya. Pramn vs. Maxwell? no way - two totally different apps with 2 totally different applications.... same with mental Ray vs. Rendrman.... anyway, I have many thoughts on this, but, this isn't the place....

That being said, I can agree with Kevin: I, too, look forward to Maxwells full release!
