i found that orbiting maxwell camera in maya it's very strange. the tracking it's ok but tumbling the camera jumps it to strange locations instead of acting like maya camera. 6.5 and mayall 0.8, latest versions. the maxwell camera it's a 2 node cam+aim, and it's created every time i'm opening a scene with no maxwell cam already existing.

anyone having this behaviour also?

thank you

digitalfx,
1st thing you gotta check out is that your units are in cm
, just double check your prefs to be sure (my maya will crash sometimes and when i open it will reset its prest to foot and 25fps-- weird i know since default is cm 24fps but somehow it switches to feet sometimes)
Ive notice the worst camera behaviour when niot in cm.

Next try rotatin the "Maxwell_Camera_aim" - Y axis so that either x or z axis are pointing toward the camera and set your rotate order under transform attributes to either xzy or zxy so that your y is last
rotating the camera aim wont do anything to it exept this aligns your camera aim local axis to your camera- cuz by defalut the rotat z and x axis are 45 degrees to the camera which is very anoing for tryiong to move the aimer or rotate about it.

and dont forget to use your "[" key to move back throught your camera position history and "]" moves fwd. they ehelp when you had a good shot and try to move thre camera anfd it flies off, you cant"z" undo it but you can try to undo it with the "[" key.- camera bookmakrs are a smart backup too.

hope that helps i get weird camera issues too, but hopefully they'll get ironed out soon.

I have a tip - hope it helps

-select your maxwell camera
-bring up your attribute editor
-go the Maxwell_CameraShape tab
-the first twirl down menu is Camera Attributes
-the very first selection box is "Controls" -> change it from "Camera and Aim" to "Camera"

Now you should be able to fly the camera around much easier - also, while your camera is still selected, Middle Mouse button in your "Top" view and hit the f key to focus on selsction (your maxwell camera). Now you can use the tranform and rotation manips from the orthographicl views.

When your camera is in place, you can go ahead and switch your Camera back to Camera and Aim in order to fine tune your focus/DOF.

good luck - jep
