Why don't you "auto-load" the plugin when maya starts?

This may be off - but I noticed I have a scene with mulltiple defaultMaxwellGlobal nodes created (with numbers ended on each node name ... ie., defaultMaxwellGlobal1).

I deleted the ones with numbers and leave just a single defaultMaxwellGlobal node then when I opened the Maxwell Render global UI, it seemed to read the original setting back.

Open outliner and uncheck the "DAG objects Only" in DISPLAY menu to
see all other nodes, and find the defaultMaxwellGlobals.

someone verify this ?

CORRECTION :

Okay - I am seeing this differently now.

Seemed like everytime the scene is opened, defaultMaxwellGlobal will be a new default. The last saved one seemed to be with a highest number attached to the defaultMaxwellGlobal node's name (= the latest global setting).

I deleted all other defaultMaxwellGlobals , except the latest one and name it "defaultMaxwellGlobal", now the latest setting should be loaded properly to the Maxwell Global's UI.

tak,

I'm seeing the same thing except the defaultMaxwellGlobals node has the correct settings - the others defaultMaxwellGlobals1, 2, 3, 4 are not correct. This is when loading the scene after the mayall plugin is loaded.

I deleted the extra nodes (1,2,3,4) and saved the scene, then closed Maya. I then reopened the scene without loading the plugin and an extra node, defaultMaxwellGlobals1, was created. Now defaultMaxwellGlobals1 has the correct settings.

Looks like we are in agreement when you load the scene without loading the plugin first :D

abgrafx3d,

Yes - it was a bit confusing - and your observation seems accurate.

thanks ! :D

I've noticed that if I open Maya... then open my Maxwell scene - *THEN RE-OPEN IT* all my render globals will be there as originally saved.

are we talkin' about the same thing?

I'm sure this just a bug.... right? I was saying that loading it twice was just a workaround that will keep your desired render globals showing up.

I don't have any problems with this, I have auto-load and everything is right (don't have any conflicts with mentalray and my scenes keep all maxwell globals information, mentalray information,etc...without any problems at all)
Maybe this is because I have the mayall plugin associated in another way.

While I also prefer the unified look-and-feel for the render global, this may get really "political and some big contracts deal with Alias" if you bring in to compare with third party renderer such as Mental Ray ( now very much integrated with Maya ).

But Next Limit should check into see that Render Global in Maya (for Maya and Mental Ray) are just GUI reading other render global nodes information. But I can understand that Render Global in Maya will not look for Mayall global because no way to hook this up.

But I think this should not be too hard to mimic Render Global itself even though the invocation is different. Just make Maxwell global GUI similar to the Render global in Maya and voila..
