i need to render something for a 3D film where dof is not realy wanted
how to turn it off ???

Dof is allways present in Maxwell. You can´t turn it off. Think like real 35mm photography....
Set fStop to 22 or higher and lower sSpeed (30 or similar) to reach the right ilumination

hmmm

this sucks - just made another test and cameras between MR and MX
won't match - so there seems no way to combine different enginges
to solve my current task...:(

no, its not hopeless, you just need to do some homework and read the threads here on maxwell maya forum heres to link to mathc up your mentalray/software renders render gate with the maxwell gate, just need to change the horizontal and verticla expressions on the maya camera:

I've discovered that (in camera node -> transform attr.) setting scale from 1 to let say 100 switches DOF or at least broaden DOF scope (not sure about that) - hope it helps.
