I don't think it is the glass shader itself that is creating the bug, as I have done loads of renders that work fine. But there is something, why are there panes of glass on Ric's first image which are black? This is exactly what I get and it is this that effects the light.
I am going to do some more tests. I have rendered the scenes off with the settings you guys are specifying and I am still getting the same problem. Infact the last test I did the scene was completely black by the time it finished
