I wonder How to Rotate the North in Maya?
Is that Possible?

I rotate the models to keep a good physical light setup. But it would be much easier to allow user rotate the north X degrees to fake the sun position relative to model.

on the manual it is written that you can do that.. but it is impossible in the max plugin ... can you pleasee tell if you are going to fix that.

Yeah I know it too, the problem is that in the plug-ins it's not implemented ...Hey there Next Limit wizards, will there be an updated maya plugin soon, with that, with seed (again) and with the scatter lens effect?

The lens scattering is an effect controlled from MXCL. Setting a seed nr is not needed anymore since you can resume a render anytime.

well, I can accept the way you do the lens effect. but setting the seed is very important, since that way I can render at 2 computer or more (my licence allows 4 computers) the same scene, each with a different seed, and complete my render during 1 night and merge MXI's instead of having to mess around the network settings - that fails every now and then, not to mention power failure in the office that costed me 2 render days at 2 computers. Funny, I was sure that the seed is a genius idea .... you know, why not keep it simple?

We'll add a command line input to the render options where you can specify any MXCL flags that are not exposed through other means, including the seed.

We'll also add a field that will allow you to specify a rotation for the North (in degrees) so that you don't have to rotate the entire scene.

that's good news. I wonder ... how many people actually use command line? it's much easier to render from maya, that's why we have a plugin... so why should I use the command line ?

You shouldn't start the render from the command line... I guess nobody does. With this method you will still render from the plug-in but that field will allow you to specify extra parameters to be passed to MXCL.
