Did you uncheck "Auto Render Clip Plane"? If it's on, all the renderers ignore the values you type in (well, Maya Software and mental ray compute the values automatically, Maxwell simply doesn't care).

hey Mihnea !

oh ! i had the «auto render clip plane» checkBox checked. after i unchecked it now it works perfectly...

i'm sorry, but i did not know what that button does. i thought it was for the realtime display of the clipping (automatically show that effect), thus i never touched it... (how could i know that ... :cry: )
(i've seen that nevertheless the .mxs is saved correctly with the values)

i guess this should be mentioned in the maya docs then...

I have never used Z-clip. So, can someone give me some examples on what I can do with it, and how to do it? Would be great, cuz Im sure, its very useful when I know what to do with it. :P

One example of a closed scene seen from the outside. I've used a shifted camera and a near z-clip plane to hide the closest wall. As you can see, some objects are excluded from z-clip
The focal lenght is very narrow to show the power of shift lenses
