Using Maya plug-in, when creating new Maxwell material seems to automatically want to create a preview icon of the newly created material...as I'm changing the values/materials my computer is freezing. Is there any way to control the material preview, for example create icon when and only when asked for and also level of icon quality...this was possible in Studio.

Thanks,
Saro

Unfortunately there's no easy way to control the update of the material swatches, Maya asks for those to be rendered whenever it feels like it. The renderer is running in low priority, so other processes should still be able to run while the preview is being rendered. What are the specs of your computer?

You can control the quality of the swatch render by going to Window -> Rendering Editors -> Maxwell -> Maxwell settings (we know the location is pretty unfortunate, but that's the only place where Maya allows a render plug-in to insert its own stuff). You can even turn off swatch rendering entirely, but the quality of the preview will then be equivalent to what you see in the viewport.

Thanks you for your help, at least I can turn it on and off as needed, I think I will turn the option off for now.

As for my computer: Intel Pentium 4, 2.6 Ghz, 2gb ram
