I've just got a simple scene, created in Maya 7, of a sphere, a 1x1 plane for a floor, and a 1x1 plane as an emitter. Without textures, the scene renders fine. I tried to apply the material Board-newbright_4x4 to the floor plane from the Arroway folder, and when I try to render it now, I get the error UVW channels (1) on object pPlaneShape3 not enough for material Board-NewBright_4x4.

So what do I need to do to the plane in order to use the mxm texture on it?

Select the object and then click on "create projector" in one of the top menus. It happens because there are so many different image files involved in the arroway mxm's.

Yep, that worked for me. I actually saw it in the manual this morning. Anyone know if there is a real time texture preview mode so that I can know before I render if I have to rotate my texture 90 degrees to get it to look right?
