even if you use maya lamberts, you should see something - my guess is no light, unless you have emitters in the scene... I have to ask did you turn on any environment in your render globals?
You should use Maxwell materails - you are able to see and create them in your Hypershade & Multilister, right?

If you want, you can post your scene - I'm sure someone here can debug it - I'll give it a go myself, but I can't promise anything

because maxwell creates a new camera for you when a scene is opened if a maxwell camera doesnt exist

to get started with maxwell just create a aphere load the maxwell globals. check physical sky and hit render or render preview and you should almost instantly get something visible

also - in your maxwell globals, under the camera tab - make sure you have a maxwell camera selected from the drop down menu - (not important for previews but it does make a difference when exporting a scene).
