These are free MXM sets made for the Arroway textures sets of the same name -- these MXM's will not work without the appropriate textures, which can be purchased at http://www.arroway-textures.com/

Directions for using these MXM files:

1) Unzip and place the MXM files into the same folder(s) you have the unzipped Arroway textures.

2) The full-rez MXM sets will only work with the full-rez (png) textures... these will most likely not work properly with the free sample Arroway textures you get when you purchase Maxwell as they are not necessarily the same images/resolution.

Please note: there is absolutely nothing that qualifies these textures as the ideal representation of what the Arroway textures are meant to be (there is no such animal) -- these are simply a version designed to save you some time and give you a starting point, therefore you are highly encouraged to modify these MXM's to suit your personal taste and needs.

Also, during testing it was found that the naming conventions of the Arroway textures have changed at some point in the past (adding extra zero's, etc.) and users who have purchased older versions of these sets may find that some MXM's do not automatically find their textures -- the remedy for this is to use FastStone to rename a copy of the textures (keep the original versions unaltered in order to preserve links to any pre-existing materials you might have).

I would like to particularly thank both Arroway and Next Limit for their assistance in the creation of these sets.

Best,
Jason.

I've posted the link to the "Edition One" MXM RealScale set -- if you have the old version of my MXM set for these textures please delete it and replace with the new one (I made some improvements, and changes based on tester feedback).

Also, it is useful to download these catalogs for navigating your sets: http://www.arroway-textures.com/en/downloads/catalogs

Best,
Jason.

I've linked the last full-rez "RealScale" MXM set (which is Stonework) in the first post.

This set has 32 extra materials in it -- which are the displacement variants. The basic idea is that you may not always want to use displacement and there are normal "Bump-only" version of each, but then there is a separate material which is Displacement-based(the bump maps are still loaded in global bump but have a value of 0-- for future flexibility).

These Displacement variations use 1/5 of the recommended scale from Arroway, but I found that this was generally the best compromise conversion ratio overall (between too much displacement and not enough) -- some MXM's may benefit from a slight increase in displacement height, while others may need a slight reduction based on your taste and needs. Make sure to use these Displacement-based materials on highly subdivided surfaces for best results.

Best,
Jason.

Sorry to be slightly off topic—

When I download these mxm's they open in MXED blank, no layers, no BSDF's— nothing. The zip file expands, all the mxm's are there and have 123kb file size. They also have no preview image— just all white.

Anyone ever seen this before or have any ideas?

I have downloaded a mxm from the Maxwell Render Resource site and it opens correctly in MXED.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I have edited the first post to include download links for all of the "relative-tiled" full-rez MXM sets.

I appended a "1X1" at the end of the name of each to denote that these have the default tiling values -- whereas I left the Realscale versions as just the normal name... this way you can have both installed side-by-side on your system.

As a result of working on this project I've really gotten a better understanding of the massive power of PyMaxwell, and I plan to be using it quite often going forward. :D :D :D

Best,
Jason.
