Try increasing the scattering coefficient, and perhaps also lowering the absorption a bit.

Thank for your advice Mihai, but i think this depend a lot of the color i use for the transmittance and the scattering. In my case i even don't really know how to set the color.

This material give me headache...well may be it's also due to the SSS control panel that is definitely not intuitive.

In the first material posted above i was using 3 layers but in order to understand better how to use the SSS, i have concentrated my research on using only one layer of SSS and here is my result:

On this last try that reach SL 19.85, i'm getting some weird light blue dot, why? is there something wrong with my setting or does the material request an higher SL?

Also if i could get some help from some users, i will really appreciate. I don't really know how to proceed to be very close to the ref photo. Should i use only one SSS layers or 2 layers (BSDF+SSS)?

Here is my progress...

Image
SL 14.5

Yes, i have decided to try to make the yellow color as i wasn't able to get something close enough with the purple pink version. I think i' m not too far in this version but i have bring some modification already to be less translucent. I will post the new version later...

...later

So, my final version will be between this two setting unless someone points me how to make it better.

SL 21...

What seems to look not too bad at low SL become very bright at high SL, so i guess i have to make some color adjustment. Actually, this make me think that i' m using the additive blending mode, is it correct to proceed like that with some SSS layer?

Also it take age to clear up this material...i have remove some noise with photoshop to make it more presentable.

The pink looks very cool...i had no idea we could make so "flashy" material with maxwell :D

Yes, very cool! But, from the title of this thread I have to point out that.. if you Hyltom - who I regard as being very experienced and very skilled in the art of Maxwell - are having problems with creating a silicon material (which I regard as a common product visualization / SSS material)...

... that tells me there is something intuitively wrong with the SSS model in Maxwell. It is simply too hard to understand and use.

Well maybe you are overestimated me ...
I also think there is something not really easy to understand with the new SSS setting and the lack of answer to this thread also show that many users are having difficulties with the SSS model or ... maybe nobody care of my problems  . Anyway i'm an obstinate person, so i will persevere and try to get a very nice material.

I'm not sure anyone understands it good enough to explain it... honestly.

Finally, i have decided to stop my research (for the time being as i' m never 100% satisfy with my materials) and use this following silicon in my future project.

Tomorrow i will post a better picture with the antenna in place...

...like that but with an higher SL

Will have to wait for the HD rendering...last night there has been a power cut and this morning after i have wanted to resume the rendering, the picture appear totally black, so i had to restart from zero...but i' get used to this week, I'm in a bad luck period. The worst i face this week was on monday when i get lock outside my car during 2 hour and half with all my belongings inside the car and with the engine of the car turn on.

Here is the small preview:

I think you got pretty close. Like you said though the little I have messed with sss materials like this they take forever to clear. Also the settings are very confusing like you said. I cant remember them if I step away from sss materials for a while. Where as the bsdf materials I can put maxwell down for a few weeks come back and remember what the settings do without going back to the manual.
