since the beta version I have been messing with mxm and textures, and all that stuff is cluttered and scattered all over my harddisks. some are in project folders, some are in dedicated texture folders, tucked away in subfolders, usually with the name of the texture on it.
this has become very cumbersome, so I decided to organize. only to find that it is an impossible task.
the options:
1. put every mxm in 1 folder, all texture images in another. this means that those folders will grow and grow, and become very tough to handle or browse. it also means, to keep it structured, that some renaming of mxm/textures needs to be done, since there are files called 70fabric005 and others like Blocchi di tufo poroso, whatever that might be. so there is no structure, and renaming files like "concrete_rough_001" would make things simple, but this is a tedious job, and I don't have time to do that.
2. keep everything in folders, and creating subfolders for concrete, bricks, fabric etc. this is neat and tidy, but if I need to render an mxs on another platform, the references to those mxm files are lost, and it takes a long time to reassign all those materials.
3. your idea maybe?
thanks
