Umm - this is just a test of the lamp shade, ignore the lack of scene. It's a combo of sss and transmittance, with a bump. Once I get it looking ok I can use it in the scene I'm working on. I noticed that the bumped spots look dark especially when the bulb inside is turned down, probably for a good reason that I dont understand?

I have to say that your ricepaper looks great! very realistic done. About the bumped areas, shouldn't they be like that in real life too.. i mean the paper is slightly thicker where the bump is and the increased thickness of the ricepaper ain't letting the same amount of light through as it non-bumped parts of the paper does. If that makes sense.. :)

Good job!

Very nice!
I wish I had some clue how to do such things.

You said "ain't." That's just fantastic.

On-topic, that is an amazing material. Great job :!: I hope you'll be sharing it on the MXM site.

Cheers everyone, also, I forgot to mention that I used the bump map found in alsohund's 'rough paper' in the mxmgallery. Since I'm clueless about making decent bump maps like that :)

If you want to share this I would be so happy! I was just about to take the plunge into my own rice paper material.

It is looking really good, btw.

Agreeing with Maximus3D, i guess this happens since bump doesn't take into consideration SSS, meaning that bump is somehow "bidimensional" and only normals and relative light incidence affect it.

This one is burning a hole in my brain......
Would you mind describing what you used as an emitter? Size, shape and number of polys.....
Thanks in advance.

:) I used a standard incandescent bulb. I made the surface of the bulb glass equivalant to a 40w bulb. The bulb object has 11868 triangles!!!

The lampshade is .01" thick, about 22" tall and about 14" dia. at its widest.
