Looks good Kurt. I think it looks heavy-duty because it is a braided cable made of braided cables. If you removed the smaller braid pattern from the individual "strands" then it would scale down better.

Nice material though.

hi Brett, Max, Tom and Djflod - thanks a lot!

Max: the textures/bump-maps are painted in Photoshop, displacement map is based on a height-map made in Microstation. All maps are 2048x2048.

Brett: I've tried to adjust the scale in this new test, but it is still a braided cable made of braided cables:

:D lol Kurt, free would be nice yeah. Great! i'm looking forward to dissecting your material.

If you wanna play with my snow then i stacked it away here.. http://www.maxwellrender.com/forum/view ... 7&start=30 but honestly Kurt, you can create a much more realistic and better one yourself. Actually i'd be interested in seeing what approach you would take on a snow material.

I am trying to come up with the cable rope material but man oh man it is tough when you are doing this for the first time and don't know how to use photoshop or gimp:)!! I found a photo of a cable/rope that I am trying to trim in gimp- not the most intuitive progam :). I will try to post some results next week. Thanks for sharing everyone.... Kurt that rope looks fantastic!

Your snow is just perfect - I see no reason to try to create another one. I just asked for it because you mentioned SHARING, and I know that some of your best materials are missing from the MXM gallery... 8)
