excuse my ignorance...
Who will notice if the file is a tiff 100 mb or a optimized big size jpeg at lets say 10 mb?
I would love to see a render where i can see the difference that would also justify the reason to manipulate such big files....

I would never use the file as a texture at full res, but it's better to have a full res 16 bit tif to create your spec, normal, bump, displace maps. Then you can reduce/compress the textures for rendering.
