the model was not a rhino model... it was a maya model  ! (god bless whoever works in nurbs and it's not using rhino)

and it was a modern piece nothing fancy like that hand!

Anyway, I think it would have been cool to use zbrush and paint the texture directly, however the deadline is tomorrow and I'm not a zbrush user

My friend was satisfied with what I gave him.... so I would leave as it's

 It was never a Maya model and I didn't say it was an original Rhino nurb, .... just that I used Rhino's OBJ export to produce it .... ..that is all.

So ...... :P

Here's the original, not so fancy, model ....... and btw: how do end up here when we start with looking for a bonze material ? :)

The top is a mesh and the bottom has been converted to Nurb surfaces ...

I wonder if a gradient map created in photoshop would work as a weight map? Did somebody say this already?

If this helps anyone, I'm happy. :)

Any number of dirt layers can be created as alpha channels, a bit of jiggery-pokery with various light placements and you'll get a range of alternate areas highlighted..........some work on the curves/levels in PS needed too, but it kinda works.
