carstenquilitz,

I just uploaded a material that may be what you need.

ABS_WhiteTranslucent_02

The link is not up yet, so maybe it takes time to show up. I use it for housewares products - like our simplehuman dishrack - see the sample image included.

I hope it shows up soon.............. :?:

carstenquilitz,

Yeah, I wasn't sure, but I thought you are probably looking for that frosted polypropelene look, but my material is a little more clear than that. It was to match our clients material of textured clear ABS, which is a little less frosty with less light gathering properties.

I still haven't found the ideal frosted polypropelene yet either... :?

@Adam

Here you go. Looks ok, but I guess it is still too noisy.

And lebbeus LED Material came out like this:

And after some more tests this is what I came up with:

Image

Noise is almost gone but the transmittance for the light seems to suffer a bit. Anyway, i solved that by placing a smal emitter underneath the darker two plates and the plastic now lookes ok.

All renderings took about the same time to finish.

Thanks for your help!

Cool. Glad you found a fix. The noise on my images needs SL 16 or more to look good. This can take a while......

Seeing your comparison reminded me that my material has yellow in it too. This is true of the real material I was matching as many cheaper "clear" plastics get a little yellow by nature.

Good luck with your final piece.

This topic interests me. Me myself have been looking and thinking about the best way to imitatade that milky white plexiglass-look. The one used in lightboxes with logos on you know...

I'm comparing the effect on a simple transmitting rough glass with tom's Milk SSS Approach.

Now that SSS is working in v1.5 much of these problems have been solved. I have been testing things a little and got pretty good results.

This topic was needed because SSS wasn't working properly in the last version.

Sorry if you already know this.

My reason for looking for such a material was that a material with SSS takes much longer to render and I wanted to keep the rendertimes as short as possible.

The new SSS might be faster IMO. The tests went OK, but you need at least SL 16. Besides youv'e got a fast machine !
