someone ever made some mat like those steel barrels?

i'm aware that most of it would depend on the environment that it's reflecting, but i'm also having fun with the material itself. i also tried coating, but somehow it always get way too glas-ish. i don't seem to get the combination of sharp reflectivity on the one hand and the kind of softness in it on the other hand.
what might be the trick here?
